artnet.com® According to its "About" page artnet.com®  is "the (emphasis added) Internet portal to the world of art."  Artnet.com® features online auctions, member gallery and artist sites, a magazine, a bookstore, and art research tools and resources, The site is owned and presented by Artnet.com AG, a public company traded on Germany's Neuer Markt. AOL Keyword: artnet. The company also maintains offices in New York. The online e-commerce bookstore, launched in 1999 is the newest major addition to the site. Many parts of the site are open, but there are many others that require subscription or sign in. The development of the art auction database development was the original impetus for the organization and remains a major focus. The site's magazine is very slick and graphically sophisticated. The site's Art Search Engine, available from the home page is a major resource for anyone interested in finding what art related sites are available on the internet- Check this site out if you haven't already. For those interested in an even bigger and more eclectic and somewhat less commercially oriented art world portal visit World Wide Art Resources described in our ART LINKS section below.

ART MEGA META SITE:

World Wide Art Resources claims to provide the biggest gateway to the arts on the Internet There are over 3,000 different categories from "happening, groovin' art events to traditional planar exhibitions and museums to way out 3-D cyber galleries." WWAR is a search engine that concentrates solely on the arts. Includes Arts Locator, Artist Index, Art Galleries, Art Museum, Art Exhibitions, Art for Sale, Commercial Art, Art Publications, Schedules, Art Schools, Art Agencies, Child Resources, Art History, Film Resources, Literary Resources, Theatre Resources, Dance Resources, Antiques, Crafts, Arts Events. The breadth and depth of this site is awesome, references over 150,000 art pages with massive indexing to make it accessible and useful.

ART SOURCE site with sections on General Resources and Bibliographies; Architectural Resources; Art & Architecture Libraries; Art Journals On-Line; Electronic Exhibitions; News Sources and Journals; Museum Information; and Arts Organizations This site is definitely academic and establishment in tone and in this context provides much information and many interesting links. It describes itself thus: "a gathering point for networked resources on Art and Architecture. The content is diverse and includes pointers to resources around the net as well as original materials submitted by librarians, artists, and art historians, etc. This site is intended to be selective, rather than comprehensive. . . .the *BEST* source of information is your local art librarian...." http://www.ilpi.com/artsource/artsourcehome.html

Comic Art: History of Comic (as in comic books) Art, broadly defined. This site starts with the History of Comic Art From Cave Painting to Spiderman and includes sections on: Artist Biographies and other creators; How to buy and collect comic art & comic books! ; Original art for sale!; and comics, pulps, movie stuff and more! with a modern section on What's going on in comics today (or maybe yesterday)! and very cool places to visit all over the Internet http://www.comic-art.com/history.htm

dArt: The Internet Art Database™ This is a search engine for actual art! The thing itself, for sale on the Internet. Their mission statement: "The mission of dART is to efficiently classifying art on the Internet. At the heart of dART is a venue that serves as a means for creating a direct secondary market that only the Internet can provide. We support this with a discussion forum that allows patrons to post solicitations (new dART listings, liquidations, etc.), rants, raves, critiques or otherwise their ideas of an artist's future direction and consequent value of their work."

fineArt forum Resource directory: This site features over 1000 art resources that can be accessed via the Internet. Websites, gophers, ftp sites, mailing lists and other types of resources are included. An alphabetical listing that goes on and on, worth checking out, especially for the non-www resources. Includes discussion groups and interesting exhibitions on the Net. This site also has lists of brokers (working spaces, supplies, etc.); groups and festivals; schools; services; regional guides; artists communities and more.

Internet for the Fine Arts According to its home page, Internet for the fine Arts, IFA, is an international on-line community and network of artists, galleries, museums, and resources for the fine arts. "We strive to make most of the resources relating to the fine arts accessible from this site. IFA is constantly changing to reflect the emergence of new artists and galleries on the Internet."

Hotwired's RGB Gallery This site is part of the on-line Hot Wired magazine and is a feature which showcases digital artists. Interesting and fairly fast for such a graphics intensive site. On-line archive of past featured artists.

New York Arts Wire A program of the New York Foundation of the Arts  This sites has sections on Museums, Galleries, Artists, Art Publications, Art Consultants, and Auction Houses and much more.

Playbill On-Line Pick a city, see what's happening, buy a ticket. Broadway plays and plays in your own back yard or across an ocean. Listings include categories such as Broadway, Off Broadway, Regional, National Tours, London, and Summer Stock. A great bonus is One Schubert Alley, a boutique devoted to theatre related items from sweatshirts and mugs to vocal scores and selections. You can even do a search for items available relating to your favorite work. For on-line movie ticket buying see the 777FILM site link on our MOVIES page.

WebMUSEUM, Paris This great site has to be seen. Hundreds of classic art works on-line, relatively fast loading. This is why an art lover needs a good video card and a 17+ inch monitor but, very usable for less ambitious hardware setups.. You'll love the art: from the medieval and general collections to the special Paul Cézanne Exhibition A nice small guided tour of Paris is included and more goodies in the What's New section of the site.. A delight of a site. Highly recommended.
